The Nampula Reforstation Project

The Nampula Reforestation Project in Northern Mozambique is a large-scale, long-term effort to restore 17,200 hectares of degraded land using a combination of native and non-native tree planting, assisted natural regeneration, and agroforestry.

The project aims to remove and store up to 4.5 million tCO₂e over its lifetime, generate significant socio-economic benefits for local communities, and restore biodiversity in the miombo woodlands.

It follows rigorous national and international standards, including VCS, CCB, and FSC, and prioritizes community engagement, benefit sharing, and environmental safeguards.

The project is designed for a 100-year crediting period and includes a complementary smallholder agroforestry program targeting at least 2,800 hectares and 2,000 farmers.
